Self-adhesive vinyl always has a paper backing material. You should be able to peel the vinyl off the paper and feel the tacky adhesive. If it can't, it's not adhesive vinyl. When cutting adhesive vinyl, you always have the paper back against the cutting mat.

The type of self-adhesive vinyl you use depends entirely on the project at hand. If you want to create seasonal chalkboard art or want to put a decal on a wall in your home, use the removable one. Generally, if it's going to be exposed to heat, water, or any extreme environment, outdoor permanence is the way to go.

Instruct:

Step 1: Use a damp cloth to clean the surface to which the self-adhesive vinyl will be applied. If you use self-adhesive vinyl, use denatured alcohol to clean the surface.

Step 2: Take your self-adhesive vinyl, peel off a small section of the backing paper, and fold it over itself.

Step 3: Spread the areas not covered with adhesive onto the surface, then wipe down slowly and gently with a squeegee.

Step 4: Pull the backing paper from the back while using the squeegee to wipe the vinyl.

Step 5: Once you are happy with the vinyl placement, use a squeegee and wipe the vinyl vigorously and remove all water between the self-adhesive vinyl and the surface.
